LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — If you're looking for an outdoor adventure this summer, the Johnny Appleseed Park District is hosting its very own treasure hunt for adventurers of all ages.
The natural treasure hunt, hosted in honor of America 250, features five historical natural artifacts for guests to search for around the parks. The first artifact was a swamp white oak at Allen County Farm Park that is over 250 years old.Â
"This was also a team effort discussion about some of the oldest objects in the park or some of the most historical places for other parts of Allen County's history and Ohio's history. So, if it had a really natural perspective or a human perspective to it," said nature education supervisor Lindsey Gallaugher.
Despite the recent heat, park visitors are already out searching for the artifacts and the QR codes that go with them.
"July has been really, really hot so far. That's typical of our weather here. But I was just talking with some folks out in the park. They're out there looking, making sure they know the right directions, and you'll have to keep watching for the rest of July for the rest of our clues," said Gallaugher.
Anyone who finds three of the five treasures will receive an America 250 sticker. Clues are released on the Johnny Appleseed Facebook page.Â
