The Putnam County Health Department today announced it has successfully completed a review process to maintain national accreditation status through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB).
Putnam County returned to a Red Level 3 on the Ohio COVID health advisory system on Thursday, joining Hancock and Hardin Counties. In our area, Putnam County has one of the higher percentages of their population vaccinated. Which leaves the question, why are case numbers going up? The Putnam County Health Commissioner, Kim Rieman, says this could be due to COVID fatigue in the community. Many are wearing masks less and gathering more. Rieman also says the virus variant making rounds in the state could be a factor in the increasing cases as well.
To help administer the COVID-19 vaccine, the Putnam County Health Department has started a call line to sign up residents. Those 80 years of age or older in Putnam County can now contact the vaccine call line to be put on the waiting list. Eligible residents can call between 9 AM and 2 PM.
The health commissioner says of 345 people tested 103 tested positive for the virus, about 30 percent. There were a number of people that came from out of county to be tested, so Putnam residents only make up about 70 percent of the positive test results. What surprised the health commissioner is the National Guard says, on average at their pop up test, the positivity rate is 10 percent.y rate is 10 percent.
