Authorities are seeking additional people who fired weapons during a weekend shooting at Virginia State University that left five people wounded. A 19-year-old suspect remained in custody on Sunday. Investigators are trying to determine if others who fired weapons did so in self-defense or if they were aggressors. The shooting just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday came as students were getting ready for the new school year. The suspect is not a student but was found hiding in a dormitory closet Saturday afternoon. He faces four counts of malicious wounding and four counts of using a firearm during a felony. Only one of the victims is a student.

Findlay City Schools was the victim of a hoax call about a person with a gun at Northview Elementary. The police say an unknown male caller contacted the Veterans Crisis Line Friday morning, saying a person with a gun was at the entrance of the school. The school went into lockdown, and officers checked the entire inside and outside of the school and found nothing.

The Findlay Police Department went to the high school around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and found that no one in the school was aware of what the caller had stated. The school was advised to initiate a lockdown and shelter in place as police went from room to room, sweeping the building. The roads around the high school were all blocked off during the sweep. Law enforcement found nothing and determined the call was a hoax.

Superintendent Westrick said the student brought the BB gun to school, brandished it in the classroom, and then fled the building. Delphos police were notified and the student and the BB gun are now in police custody. Westrick said all buildings went into lockdown during the time period. The lockdown has been lifted and all students and staff are safe and carrying on with the school day.

One student has been detained by police after Jefferson High School went into lockdown. The school was locked down for nearly two hours as school officials got word that there may be guns in the building. They heard a home in Delphos was robbed of two guns and that students may know where the guns are. Some students were interviewed the rest were dismissed at 1:15 because police said they could search the building better if it was empty. Police later found the guns in two separate locations but not on school grounds.
