The “Love Luggage” project, the brainchild of the Allen Lima Leadership Class of 2006, has been making a difference for the past 19 years. With the help of the Lima Rotary Club, volunteers continue to fill backpacks with essential items for children who are removed from their homes due to circumstances beyond their control.
On Friday, the Lima Leadership Class of 2006 gathered at Allen County Children Services to complete a project called "Love Luggage". The project has members from the class fill backpacks filled with items such as toys, hygiene products, coloring books, blankets, and more. These bags will go to children from babies to 18 years of age entering foster care. Since the project started, nearly 1,400 units have been assembled.
“Love Luggage” is given to children who have been placed into the care of Allen County Children Services due to circumstances in the home. The Allen Lima Leadership Class of 2006 created “Love Luggage” to assure these children would have the things they would need in this situation. They get a backpack full of personal hygiene items along with some educational and fun things as well. They are currently asking for donations to fill 120 backpacks for the children.
New foster kids will be getting a care package, thanks to some generous donors. The Allen Lima Leadership Class of 2006 and the Allen County Family Services organized 92 individual care bookbags for local foster kids on Friday. The Love Luggage project has been going on since 2006 and benefits foster children of Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, and Putnam counties. These backpacks are filled every 12 to 18 months for children ages 3 to 18 years old, and they're loaded with personal items such as school supplies, small games, hygiene products, and most importantly, a blanket.
They have been providing a piece of stability for Allen County children for more than a decade.
