New foster kids will be getting a care package, thanks to some generous donors.
The Allen Lima Leadership Class of 2006 and the Allen County Family Services organized 92 individual care bookbags for local foster kids on Friday. The Love Luggage project has been going on since 2006 and benefits foster children of Allen, Auglaize, Hardin, and Putnam counties. These backpacks are filled every 12 to 18 months for children ages 3 to 18 years old, and they're loaded with personal items such as school supplies, small games, hygiene products, and most importantly, a blanket.
"When kids enter foster care, it's often the most traumatic day of their life and our goal with the Love Luggage is to instill some joy and also some self esteem," explained Beth Seibert, Allen Lima leadership Class of 2006 member.
Allen Lima Leadership planned their next Love Luggage event for January 2021 and their goal is to raise $5,000 for the project. People are encouraged to visit the Allen Lima Leadership Facebook page to find out how they can help.
