ST. MARY'S, Ohio (WLIO) - Saint Mary’s hosted an exciting basketball game on Wednesday.
The Special Olympics athletes of Auglaize County were up against the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office in a basketball game. This not only gave the Special Olympic athletes credibility, but a fun night off for the sheriff's department. With raffles, 50-50's, and other prizes, this event's proceeds will help fund Special Olympics in the future. By having the community support these athletes, they're able to have a night they'll remember for a lifetime.
"For us, it is a really fun game for our athletes, and it is a point for our community to all come together to raise funds for the Auglaize County Special Olympics, as well as to volunteer and support other community organizations," says Natalie Karner, Local Coordinator, Auglaize County Special Olympics.
By this game being the first Special Olympics versus Auglaize County Sheriff's Office event since pre-covid, the athletes and coaches were excited to show how much they've improved as well as hosting an event for the Auglaize community.
