A Lima man has been sentenced after changing his plea in Allen County Common Pleas Court Thursday. Marcos Gonzalez-Barcenas entered a change of plea Thursday that had him plead guilty to one charge of rape, in exchange for the dismissal of the other rape charge and the two charges of sexual battery. Sentencing quickly followed after the change of plea, with the 54-year-old receiving a sentence of 7 to 10 and a half years in prison.
Marcos Gonzalez-Barcenas has pleaded not guilty to two charges of rape and two charges of gross sexual imposition. Two date ranges are in question. Court documents state these alleged crimes happened between April of 2019 to March 31, 2020, and April 2020 to May 2020. A motion will be filed to have an interpreter work with Gonzalez-Barcenas and his attorney because English is not his first language. His attorney also plans to file a motion to suppress a statement he made to police.
Marcos Gonzalez-Barcenas has been indicted on two counts of rape and two counts of sexual battery. The indictment indicates two incidents are in question and they date back to April 2019 to May of this year. Bond has been set at $500,000. His first court date will be scheduled after he is arraigned.
