October 24, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources: COLUMBUS, Ohio – In honor of Veterans Day, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife invites veterans to visit and shoot for free at one of Ohio’s premier public shooting ranges on Sunday, Nov. 10. The shooting range permit requirement is waived for veterans on all Division of Wildlife Class A, B, and C shooting ranges for that day. The ODNR Division of Wildlife is providing a free range day as a thank you to veterans for their service. Veterans can visit either the Delaware or Spring Valley class A ranges between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to get specialized instruction. A variety of firearms will be available to use at no charge.

August is National Shooting Sports Month, and a local range is inviting people to try their hand at the sport. If you have been watching the Olympics, shooting sports are practiced worldwide, and Hesseling Range, Firearms & Gunsmith want to introduce people who may have never shot a gun before to learn how to safely take their first shots.

Johnny Appleseed Parks is giving people the chance to take a shot at archery. The park district held two beginning archery classes Wednesday night at the Allen County Farm Park. The free classes give kids from 9-years-old to adults the fundamentals of how to properly use a bow and arrow and how to safely use them on a range. The archery classes are very popular each summer, and they can teach some important lessons for kids and adults.
