Wapakoneta’s most famous son returns to downtown to greet everybody coming for the Summer Moon Fest for years to come. The Armstrong Air and Space Museum Association commissioned a statue of Neil Armstrong to be placed in the downtown parkway. The statue was created from a picture taken of Armstrong during his welcome home parade in September 1969 following his historic walk on the moon. Sculpture Michael Tizzano has been making trips to Wapak to show students and adults the various steps along the way and he is pleased with how it turned out.
