The Armstrong Air and Space Museum Association commissioned a statue of Neil Armstrong to be placed in the downtown parkway. The statue was created from a picture taken of Armstrong during his welcome home parade in September 1969 following his historic walk on the moon. Sculpture Michael Tizzano has been making trips to Wapak to show students and adults the various steps along the way and he is pleased with how it turned out.

"Many many hours, many months of the whole process and it’s nice to have it all completed and for people to finally see it and we designed it so there is a space that people can sit next to Neal, a lot of photo opportunities, it’s in the perfect spot," said Michael Tizzano, Sculptor.

The downtown statue joins two other statues of Neil Armstrong that were unveiled his week, The other two were commissioned by his family and placed at the museum, depicting Armstrong before his Apollo 11 flight.
