SPENCERVILLE, Ohio (WLIO) — It was an emotional night on the diamond as Spencerville honored fallen senior Owen Conley before first pitch.
A moment of silence was held prior to the game, and Owen’s father, Damien Conley, threw out the ceremonial first pitch in his son’s honor. Bearcat players also paid tribute by wearing “O.C.” and the number 11 on the sides of their hats.
Once the game began, it quickly turned into a pitcher’s duel.
Spencerville’s Gavin Comer came out strong, striking out the first two batters he faced — one swinging and one looking — as he set the tone early. Comer went three and a third innings, finishing with five strikeouts.
Marion Local’s Trey Brookhart matched him pitch for pitch. The Flyers’ right-hander recorded six strikeouts and kept the game scoreless through the early innings.
Defense also played a key role, highlighted by Kamden Eifert’s sliding grab in right field to take away a hit.
Spencerville held a 2-1 lead late, but Marion Local delivered in the clutch. The Flyers plated three runs in the seventh inning to take control.
Marion Local completes the comeback with a 4-3 victory in a game that carried far more meaning than just the final score.
