Allen County is out for a new build of a data center by Microsoft. Allen Economic Development Group was notified earlier this week that Microsoft had removed Allen County as a location for the expansion. Microsoft representatives were just in town in mid-September, meeting with commissioners, Perry Township trustees, and residents about the proposed project.

Allen County Commissioners are learning more about a proposed data center in Perry Township. Representatives from Microsoft are in town for a community meeting at this hour, but took time this morning to sit down with commissioners to share more about what a data center is and that Allen County is still in the running for one of their centers. They are looking at land east of State Route 65 between Breese and Hume Roads in Perry Township for a multi-building campus to increase their data center footprint. Commissioners are encouraged by the interest in Microsoft to become a member of the community.

Microsoft and an Ohio-based provider of telecommunications services have announced an agreement to extend broadband internet access to underserved rural areas of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois over the next three years. The deal announced Tuesday between Microsoft and Lima-based Watch Communications aims to make reliable high-speed internet available to another 815,000 people, including 288,000 in Ohio.
