August 26, 2024, Press Release from the Area Agency on Aging 3: LIMA, Ohio –  The 10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls campaign, held annually by the Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) is returning for September 2024, and ODA is asking community partners to host local walking groups and events to raise awareness of older adult falls. "We celebrate Falls Prevention Awareness Month every September, and we are excited to bring back our 10 Million Steps campaign as the centerpiece of that celebration in 2024," said ODA Director Ursel J. McElroy. "This year, you can support the older adults in your life by walking just one mile to help us raise awareness of falls prevention. We hope you will join us as we work toward our goal of educating every Ohioan on how to minimize their risk of falling." 10 Million Steps to Prevent Falls is an annual campaign to encourage Ohioans of all ages to walk at least one mile during the month of September.

Ohio's Department of Aging is accepting nominations for the state's Senior Citizen's Hall of Fame. It honors current or long-time Ohio residents age 60 and older who have made and continue to make a lasting impact on their communities, professions, or vocations. The department says 486 older Ohioans have been inducted into the hall of fame since 1976. Nominations must be received by November 29th to be considered for induction in 2020.

The Ohio Department of Aging says an alleged incident at a Lima nursing home, reinforces the importance of safety in those facilities.

The state agency says they are working closely with the offices investigating the injuries sustained by 70 year old Susan Washington of Lima at the Lima Rehab and Nursing Center.

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Aging will induct Charles J. and the late Mariann D. Younger, of Findlay, into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame during a special ceremony at the Statehouse Atrium in Columbus on Thursday, May 30, 2019. Mr. and Mrs. Younger are among 12 outstanding older Ohioans being inducted this year for a lifetime of contributions and accomplishments. The honorees will be recognized by their peers, the Ohio General Assembly, Governor Mike DeWine and members of his cabinet, the Ohio Association of Area Agencies on Aging, and leaders from Ohio’s aging network.
