Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year Award is presented each year to one Ohio caregiver who personifies leadership, motivates colleagues, influences others, provides valuable service, exemplifies the mission, vision and values of their organization, and has an impact in their community. Dr. Edward Hosbach II, primary care provider at Mercer Health Medical Group in Ft. Recovery and St. Henry, has been nominated for the 2024 Health Care Worker of the Year Award.

Just a few weeks ago, the Ohio Hospital Association said they are struggling to keep up with COVID-19 patients because much of the staff is getting sick. Hospital capacity wasn't an issue, but now it is. A record of over 5,000 people are in the hospital right now with COVID-19. 1,100 of those people are in the ICU. Hospitals are getting closer to making the decisions to stop elective procedures once again. An Ohio State doctor said rural area hospitals are facing the most pressure.

Governor Mike DeWine speaks with members of the Ohio Hospital Association to get an update on COVID-19 hospitalizations throughout the state. More than 4,100 people are currently in the hospital with coronavirus-related symptoms, including more than one thousand on intensive care units and more than 500 on ventilators, according to state health department data.

In the summer, hospitals struggled to maintain PPE, medication and ventilators, but now they are all set on that equipment. Instead, they say those caregivers providing treatment, are getting sick because the virus is out of control in their communities. The chief medical  officer of the Cleveland Clinic says 300 caregivers at his hospital are sick as of Monday.
