Recent updates to Ohio’s distracted driving laws have further expanded what may qualify as impaired operation. Texting while driving, using an electronic device, consuming drugs before or while driving, and even activities such as eating or applying makeup behind the wheel can result in citations.

The bill was named after a central Ohio teen who took his own life after being extorted for money to prevent pictures he sent to who he thought was a teenage girl. Following his death, it took his family 10 months to get information off his phone to see what led up to his suicide. The new law gives law enforcement more teeth to go after the people who try to extort the money and requires parents to get access to their deceased child's phone and social accounts within 30 days.

The Findlay Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting this year's "Lights for Lives" campaign a success. Between 6 pm on November 25th through 6 am on November 27th, troopers and officers pulled over 894 vehicles for traffic violations all over northwestern Ohio.

The "Stand Your Ground" Law goes into effect in the state of Ohio effective today. In the past, the law required a person to retreat from a hostile situation before using their firearm in self-defense. The new law now eliminates that requirement. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed a bill changing the use of firearm policy back in January of this year.
