Lima Police Department detective Steve Stechschulte was named "Outstanding Peace Officer of the Year" by the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association. The award was presented by Allen County Prosecutor Juergen Waldwick who is the 2020 OPAA president. Stechschulte has been in law enforcement for nearly 30 years and a detective for nearly 15 years. The award comes on the heels of a case Stechschulte helped convict Eric Wilson Jr. Wilson was the first person in the county convicted of participating in a criminal gang.

The Allen County prosecutor has been tabbed to lead the state's prosecutor's in the coming year.

Allen County Prosecutor Juergen Waldick was named president of the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association. Waldick says he's in the midst of a five year rotation process where he holds other positions with the OPAA. Now it's his turn to lead the organization as president. Waldick has over 30 years of prosecuting experience. He's been the Allen County prosecutor since 2004 and his seeking a fifth term in 2020. He'll travel to Columbus more frequently for meetings with the OPAA and legislators.

We introduced you all to Senate Bill 3 back in March and there have been several discussions in Columbus since then. But it’s looking like talks about this bill will have to continue into 2020. Senate Bill 3 hopes to reform how drug offenders are sentenced in Ohio. The bi-partisan bill would lessen the penalty for certain drug-possession felonies to misdemeanors. It would also tighten up on trafficking charges. The two Ohio senators who introduced the bill believe more treatment is the key.
