The total project cost is estimated at more than $2.4 million. RJ Corman’s Western Ohio Lines consist of several lines across the region, among them the Spencerville-Elgin (SPEG) Line and Greenville Line. The 20-mile SPEG Line begins in Lima and extends to Elgin in southeastern Van Wert County. The 12-mile Greenville Line connects Greenville with a CSX interchange in Ansonia.
Lima City Council and city administrators are seeking millions of dollars in funding to potentially reconstruct a busy railroad track crossing at a major Lima roadway.
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) and the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) are participating in Rail Safety Week, September 19-25. The week is dedicated as a reminder to Ohioans to practice safety around all rail crossings. Every three hours, a person or vehicle is hit by a train in the United States. Many crashes at railroad crossings occur because motorists fail to stop at the crossing, drive around the gates, or stop/stall on the tracks.
