The Lima Allen County Regional Planning Commission has been selected by Governor Mike DeWine to become one of seven regional transportation planning organizations in the state. The newly formed West-Central Ohio Rural Planning Organization, or WORPO, will serve Auglaize, Hancock, Hardin, Mercer, Van Wert, Putnam, and Wyandot counties. This organization can give rural counties outside of the Allen County Metropolitan Planning Organization funding and resources for transportation projects and allow multi-jurisdictional collaboration. The process of getting this designation took two years but will now give rural counties an opportunity to finance more road projects.

The 2024 season of Mayor Sharetta Smith's "Walking the Wards" kicked off Tuesday night on Lima's west end. On Tuesday evening, Mayor Smith along with Fire Chief Andy Heffner, Lima City Council President Jamie Dixon, and several other city officials walked the city's Fourth Ward neighborhoods. The mayor and her team stopped and talked with several Fourth Ward residents about what issues they are observing and what they would like to see happen. After the walk, Mayor Smith talked with Your Hometown Stations about what concerns neighbors addressed.
This is another in a series of forums that the alliance has been holding to address the issue of gun violence in Lima and the area. The last meeting saw a cross-section of people in attendance, including city officials, law enforcement, and even school administrators, among others. They are hoping for a good turnout again.
Updates were given about the new county administrative building, the Cable Road project, and a new program that will take "One Ohio Funds" to assist individuals battling opioid addiction toward the road to recovery. All involved say communication is key to moving forward.
April 15, 2024, Press Release from the Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced today that $5 million is now available to support local governments and eligible non-profit organizations impacted by the tornados in Logan and Auglaize counties on March 14, 2024.
Allen County engineers held their final road meeting today with all township trustees and county commissioners to finalize the 2024 plan. The total cost for all of the road projects came out to just over $2.2 million. That includes a little more than 9 miles of paving and 57 miles of chip sealing, but because of inflation, those numbers are 30% less than last year.
