Smith assures residents that they will continue to be a responsive government moving to meet residents’ needs and improve the quality of life in Lima. Two major projects mentioned in the next four years will be redevelopment plans for the old VFW and River Front One properties.

It was a busy night at Lima City Council with multiple pieces of legislation being passed. First, Council voted for the approval of purchasing the VFW Post 1275 building and the adjacent parking lot located within the 100 block of East Elm Street. Council also received an update that the construction of the $11.5 million Aquatics Center project is coming along, on time, and on budget. Council also gave Mayor Smith the green light to go after 2 grants from the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Even though Allen County and the City of Lima are separate governments, they collaborate in a lot of areas. Through numerous meetings and projects, the county and the city find ways to continue the positive momentum of this region. They meet and talk regularly to discuss projects like the Riverfront One building that the city owns and is working with the county to get Brownfield money to help revitalize the property. Lima and Allen County officials continue to work to help the residents that they serve.
