The Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) announced the award of more than $130,000 in youth literacy grants to Ohio non-profit organizations, libraries and schools.
The Heritage Ukulele Ensemble made seven stops throughout the day to thank businesses and organizations that have supported them during the school year. Students scattered in every direction during the annual Easter egg hunt, organized by Lima City School resource officers. The event, held for several years, gives students a chance to unwind following state testing and before heading into Easter break.
The grants are funded through a collaboration between Activate Allen County, the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize and Hardin Counties, the Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Board of Putnam County, and Mercy Health.

Spencerville Elementary has been recognized for its academic achievement with a national award! "It really does take a village, and I think the entire town comes together and works together for the best of the kids," says Susan Wagner, principal of Spencerville Elementary School. And because of that collaboration, Spencerville Elementary is in an elite group. They are 1 of 69 National ESEA Distinguished School award winners and only one of two in Ohio. The award recognizes schools that effectively use Title 1 funding to increase academic achievement. Spencerville says it's the teamwork between their staff, with their parents, and with the community that has gotten them five stars on their grade card the last two years.
Lincolnview Local Schools will be changing their educational service center affiliation. On Monday evening, the Lincolnview School Board of Education unanimously voted to switch the district's affiliation from the Western Buckeye ESC to the Mercer County ESC. According to Lincolnview Superintendent Jeff Snyder, the school district has been utilizing some curriculum and professional development services from Mercer County ESC since 2019. Despite the change of affiliation to Mercer County, Superintendent Snyder still says they will still work with Western Buckeye in the future.
