LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Musicians from Lima's Heritage Elementary School took their talents on the road Tuesday, sharing music and gratitude across the city.
Their first performance took place in front of ArtSpace Lima, where they entertained passersby in Town Square before heading to the Lima Municipal Building.
The Heritage Ukulele Ensemble made seven stops throughout the day to thank businesses and organizations that have supported them during the school year. Their first performance took place in front of ArtSpace Lima, where they entertained passersby in Town Square before heading to the Lima Municipal Building. There, the students performed for Mayor Sharetta Smith and several members of her staff.
“It’s basically like getting along and learning the chords and spending time with the teachers,” said fourth grader Justiss Amerson. “You just learn.”
Fellow fourth grader Drayden Williams shared the group’s commitment. “We practice. We had to hurry up and eat at lunch. Sometimes we waste our recess just to do this stuff,” he said. After their performance at City Hall, the students posed for a photo with Mayor Smith, wrapping up a day of music, appreciation, and community spirit.
