LIMA, OH (WLIO) - People came out to play word games to help promote adult literacy.
Teams are now forming for the Lima Literacy Council’s “Scrabble” competition. This is a major fundraiser to help in the council's mission to teach adults to read. They say 1 out of every 6 adults lacks basic reading skills and the Lima Literacy council wants to see individuals read to succeed and learn to earn.
The Northwest Ohio Literacy Council is using literacy skills in a competitive way to help fundraise for the illiterate.
The annual scrabble tournament has been put on by the Ohio Literacy Council for the past 15 years. Four-person teams pay $20 a player to get a spot at the tournament and try to use their scrabble skills to get the most points. This fundraiser is a part of the council’s mission to teach adults how to read.
It has been helping people learn to read for more than a decade, and you can be a part of it.
The Northwest Ohio Literacy Council is still looking for a few good spellers as their annual Scrabble tournament is this weekend and spaces are still available.
