For the fifteenth consecutive year, Nutrien’s Lima nitrogen facility has been honored with the 2025 Award for Excellence in Environmental, Health, Safety and Security.
The secure, onsite shredding event will take place Thursday, May 8, from 9 a.m. to noon in front of the agency’s office at 2423 Allentown Road, across from Walmart. The event offers residents a safe way to dispose of personal documents, check stubs, credit cards, and other paper materials that contain personal information.
Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith is concerned about the recent gun violence in the city. With two homicides within the last 30 days in or near city parks, she is looking to add safety measures to all parks. "I will be asking city council for funding for both cameras and additional lighting in our parks. In 2023 and 2024 we added additional lighting in both Cook Park and Robb Park, but you will see capital expenditures for lighting and cameras in all of our parks to improve safety," said Mayor Sharetta Smith, City of Lima.
November 18, 2024, Press Release from Apollo Career Center: The Shawnee Township Police and Fire Departments, in partnership with Apollo Career Center and Allen County EMA, will conduct a multi-agency, full-scale active shooter training drill on Monday, November 25th, beginning at 12:00 p.m. This drill will be for staff only. The high school is not in session, and there will be no high school students on campus.
October 2, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio Department of Public Safety: (COLUMBUS, Ohio) – The Office of Criminal Justice Services announced today the certification of one Ohio law enforcement agency for state standards established by the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board. Thirteen additional agencies achieved their recertification. Agencies completing the certification process have adopted and implemented the initial two standards regarding use of force and hiring and recruitment while the recertification process takes place on a revolving, three to four-year cycle.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be providing extra security to Springfield School District after 33 bomb threats have been made and found to be hoaxes. Governor Mike DeWine and state officials held a joint press conference to announce that 36 troopers from the Mobile Field Force will be assigned to the 18 school buildings to search every morning and provide added security throughout the day. The threats came after city officials debunked rumors that Haitian people were stealing pets to eat. And the person who made the social media post that started that rumor says it was false.
The Bath Township Fire Department has a new Platoon Chief along with several new firefighters joining the department. On Monday evening inside the Bath Township Fire Station, Fire Chief Joe Kitchen swore in Brock Yingling as the department's new Platoon Chief. Yingling has been a firefighter and a paramedic with Bath Township since 2000. He also serves as the Public Safety Director at Apollo Career Center, and Yingling will be able to work with his students as their Platoon Chief.

August 12, 2024, Press Release from the FBI Cleveland Division: [Cleveland, OH.] Today, FBI Cleveland announced the disruption of “Radar/Dispossessor,” the criminal ransomware group led by the online moniker ‘Brain,’ and the dismantling of three US servers, three UK servers, 18 German servers, eight US-based criminal domains, and one German-based criminal domain. Since its inception in August 2023, Radar/Dispossessor has quickly developed into an internationally impactful ransomware group, targeting, and attacking small to mid-sized businesses and organizations from the production, development, education, healthcare, financial services, and transportation sectors. Originally focused on entities in the USA, the investigation discovered 43 companies as victims of the attacks, from countries including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Honduras, India, Canada, Croatia, Peru, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and Germany. During its investigation, the FBI identified a multitude of websites associated with Brain and his team.
