The YMCA will host its annual Mother and Son Superhero Party on Saturday, May 10th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event will feature dancing, games, and activities designed for dynamic duos looking to make lasting memories.
On Saturday, May 3, people of all ages can explore the world of comics by selecting up to five free comic books from 20 predetermined titles. With something for both kids and adults, the event offers a variety of choices to suit all tastes. Whether you’re a lifelong comic book reader or new to the genre, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Real heroes may not wear capes, but they can do their part to help local children leave bad situation and get into loving homes. The Allen County Court Appointed Special Advocates Program or CASA held their 2nd annual Superhero 5K. This is the organization largest fundraiser of the year and many runners and walker turned out in their best superhero costume to run the course around Faurot Park. While the superheroes were running in the streets, the real heroes to CASA are the advocate that work closely with the children to help make sure leave a situation where they have been abused and neglected.
The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program through Crime Victim Services is holding their major fundraiser the "Superhero 5K" to raise money to assist in the training of court-appointed advocates. They work to make sure the juvenile has a safe, stable, and permanent home along with meeting other needs. Serving Putnam and Allen County, "CASA" is only serving half of the children that need assistance and are looking for more volunteers.
Marc Bowker, owner of Alter Ego Comics explains, “And this year, we’re super excited to have a number of other downtown businesses participating. We’ve got five downtown businesses people can visit after they visit Alto Ego to either pick up a free comic book or actually ArtSpace is having a comic book artist there all-day conducting workshops for kids.”
