On Saturday, May 3, people of all ages can explore the world of comics by selecting up to five free comic books from 20 predetermined titles. With something for both kids and adults, the event offers a variety of choices to suit all tastes. Whether you’re a lifelong comic book reader or new to the genre, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Marc Bowker, owner of Alter Ego Comics, explained the impact comics can have on young readers. “There’s a ton of science and data about kids becoming lifelong readers after they start reading comics,” Bowker said. “Whether it’s the latest Dog Man graphic novel or a Spider-Man, Superman, or Wonder Woman comic, it engages both parts of their brain. You’ve got the visual and the words on the page.”
Free Comic Book Day also encourages attendees to dress up, with cosplay highly recommended. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Alter Ego Comics, located at 230 North Main Street in downtown Lima. Bowker sees the event as a way to thank the community for its continued support and calls it “one of the most fun days of the year.”
