October 17, 2024, Press Release from the United States Department of Justice, Northern District of Ohio: YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – An indictment was unsealed charging two Ohio men with the murder of an on-duty United States Postal Service (USPS) Letter Carrier in March of 2024. According to the indictment, on March 2, 2024, Kaprise Sledge, 24, of Warren, Ohio, and Thomas Sledge, 44, of Youngstown, Ohio, used a firearm to kill the mail carrier during the course of his official employment with the USPS. Kaprise Sledge and Thomas Sledge are each charged with one count of murder of an officer and employee of the United States and one count of discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Getting some of your mailing and shipping done with the United States Postal Service is now a little more expensive. New postage rates went into effect yesterday. Stamp prices are up again, the second time in six months, to 63 cents from 60 cents. Don't worry, you can still use your old stamps now despite the price increases.

The Lima Police Department were on scene after a mail truck was struck and overturned Tuesday morning. Officers were called out to the intersection of Market and Pierce Streets around 9:30 a.m. for a mail truck that had overturned. When they arrived on scene they found out that the mail truck had been struck by another car.

Positions available are: city carrier assistants, rural carrier associates, postal support employees, mailhandler assistants, and tractor trailer operators. These positions perform mail handling, mail processing, driving, mail delivery or a combination of such duties, as required. Starting salary is between $16.87 and $23.74 per hour. A Class (A) commercial drivers license (CDL) is required for tractor trailer operator positions.

If you haven't sent out your packages yet, there's still some time to have them delivered by Christmas. Van Wert Postmaster Jessica Chavarria says that the deadline for First Class Mail is December 18th, and for Priority Mail, it's the 19th. But there's one more option if you're unable to send something out until the very last minute.

As the situation with COVID-19 increases and our shelter in place order increases, a Lima letter carrier is concerned with interactions with customers. With warmer weather approaching more customers are meeting them at the door to get their mail. They are politely asking them to allow USPS to deliver to their mailbox and avoid close interaction or possible contact.

The Lima Post Office wants everyone to get their gifts to their loved ones on time so everyone has a good holiday. Here are the important deadlines you need to know so you can choose the right shipping for delivery by Christmas Day. The deadline for shipping ground is this Saturday, December 14th. To have something delivered to a military member on time, choose express and mail it out by December 18th. The busiest time for the USPS is December 16th through December 22nd, and the Lima Post Office is already seeing a sharp increase.
