The local chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is gearing up to celebrate its 30th Martin Luther King Junior Memorial Breakfast. The annual event celebrates the life and legacy of Doctor King by bringing people of all ages together to be inspired to make their community better. This year, Mayor Sharetta Smith will be talking about the occasion, and the featured speaker is Lima native Angela Davis. The money raised from the breakfast helps fund scholarships for students. Last year the sorority handed out 14 thousand dollars in scholarships to help kids start college on a positive note.

It was a chance to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season for local businesswomen. The Lima Allen County Chamber of Commerce's "Jollification" drew more than 200 people to the Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center. It was not only a chance to network but also a chance to shop, to promote your business, and to just have fun. Everyone had their own reason for attending "Jollification."

The Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center and Civic Center Foundation announced the Broadway Series for 2024-25, featuring four shows. The Civic Center Foundation’s Broadway in Crouse Hall 2024-25 Series includes SHREK, AIN’T TOO PROUD – THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE TEMPTATIONS, DEAR EVAN HANSEN, and THE ADDAMS FAMILY.

The four-hour event raised over $54,000 from many local businesses and community members. The night was filled with numerous musical performances and interviews to raise awareness for the arts and how important the Civic Center is to downtown Lima. While the center has been able to slowly reopen its doors since being forced to close for months, they are nowhere near the scale they were before the pandemic hit.
