With all the recent snowfall in our area, how could our waterways be affected?
Nov. 16 Stormwater Awareness Day, and the Allen Soil and Water Conservation District is using the day to remind residents how rain and melting snow affect local water quality.
As fall approaches and leaves begin to drop, the Allen Soil and Water Conservation District is reminding residents to properly dispose of their leaves to protect local rivers and streams.
On August 28th The Ohio State University’s Lima Campus will host a field day that will focus on regenerative agriculture.
“Wetlands act like sponges, especially areas like vernal pools,” said Cadence Richard, a seasonal naturalist with JAMPD. “If you think of swamps and other very boggy type areas, the mud and soil within those areas can help trap pollution and stop it in its tracks before it continues on down to whatever river or stream they might feed into.”
The Lima Fire Department will be flushing fire hydrants during the month of May and possibly into June.
The fish fry will take place Friday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Dinners, catered by Old Barn Out Back, are $15 each, with all proceeds benefiting the Ottawa River Coalition. A silent auction and a 50/50 drawing will also return.
