On January 11th, a trooper pulled over a rental car with Kentucky plates for a traffic violation. When the trooper was talking to them, they noticed the smell of raw marijuana. After searching the car, they found a magnetic box underneath the vehicle with $27,000 worth of fentanyl in it.
The Arnold C. Deinstberger Foundation held their 22nd annual grant presentation Tuesday Night at the Delphos Club. Foundation board members awarded $300,000 worth of grants for a variety of community organizations.
A fire in a chimney could be to blame for a Friday night house fire on the west side of Lima. Lima firefighters were called out 1023 Cameron Lane around 9:30 p.m. Friday night after the residents noticed smoke coming from the attic. Everyone was able to get out safely, but the fire caused $70,000 worth of damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say it originated from around the chimney and was more than likely the cause. The American Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
Just after 7 p.m. Wednesday, St. Marys Police officers were called to Bath and Body Works for a theft of $1,000 worth of items. Officers found the suspects’ vehicle later at Krogers and a chase began east down US 33 then southbound on I-75. Stop sticks were deployed around Sidney to stop the vehicle and the three women were arrested.
The Ohio Attorney General says that drug seizures were up this year compared to 2020. According to Dave Yost, the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission seized more than $42 million worth of illegal drugs in 2021 compared to $29 million worth last year. The OOCIC consists of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
They seized 472 pounds of meth this year which is over two times the amount from 2020 and they also found 100 pounds more of the drug fentanyl. The only drug that the commission seized less of was marijuana. Attorney General Yost says he expects law enforcement to have the same amount of success taking drugs off the street in 2022.
A partnership donated more than $1,400 worth of toys for Toys for Tots. The Marine Corps League of Lima and Tom Ahl dealerships partnered together in order to gather toys for children in need for the holiday season.
