LIMA, OH (WLIO) — Dedication and determination are the first things that come to mind for Lima Senior's Yahir Brito-Diaz.

The Spartan senior excels in four sports: baseball, soccer, golf and bowling. In the classroom, Brito-Diaz is a top scholar with a 3.8 GPA.

"You don't find people like 'Yah', he's an old soul," said Lima Senior baseball head coach Casey Reed. "He's one of those guys who every time you talk to him, it's yes coach, no coach, got you coach; like don't worry, I'll take care of it. Those kids are hard to come by nowadays, and he's just one of those kids that when you look back on a program, eventually when it's time to step away, he'll be one of the first names that come to our mind when we talk about the kids that we've enjoyed coaching the most."

From baseball, to soccer, to golf and bowling, Lima Senior's Yahir Brito-Diaz is always proud to represent the Spartans in anything he does.

"I love how Lima Senior is very built on pride, and so I take pride in all four of those sports, and it's just an honor to be able to play those sports every day," said Brito-Diaz.

"Every sport that he plays has some skill that's asked of him to show up every day and use, and they all mix together, but I think it speaks to Yah's ability and who he is as a person that he's touched 4 programs and all four of those programs are better where they're at now than where they were when they started, and I think a lot of that is because of him and all that he's done for those programs," Reed said.

Yahir is also a standout in the classroom. The Spartan senior has a 3.8 GPA.

"He's able to get all of his work done and get the good grades that he does, as well as make sure that as he's doing all these sports, he's getting the help that he needs," said Lima Senior math teacher Antonio Crea. "He's using every time that he has wisely, whether it's in school, out of school."

After high school, Yahir will enter the workforce to become a welder.

"Lima Senior has a very good aspect of bringing out the career tech part," Brito-Diaz said. "And so our sophomore year, we're allowed to explore the different career techs in the building, and when I walked into that welding part, I fell in love with it, and it just represents of who I am."

Yahir Brito-Diaz has put in the work to succeed in the classroom and in competition, but the Spartan senior says his journey wouldn't be possible without those around him.

"The community is the greatest in Lima, we come out and we show out every single day," he said. "It takes a village, especially for me to take part in where I am in my life, in my sports, in my athletics and so the community is everything."

Congratulations to Yahir Brito-Diaz — our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week of the Week.
