For 10 years, MakerFest has connected high school students with local companies and career paths they might not see in a traditional classroom.
Future engineers and welders got firsthand experience Friday in Lima, seeing how their college education can make an impact locally. Students from Ohio Northern University’s Technology Studies program took part in their tour of the industries.

September 30, 2024, Press Release from Rhodes State College: LIMA, Ohio September 30, 2024 -- Rhodes State College has been awarded $130,968 in funding for the "Program and Project Support Certificate Courses for High School Students and Adults" initiative. The grant, provided for FY24, will allow the college to offer scholarships for 108 students, including high school students and adults, to pursue specialized technical training.
This year, Lima Senior's welding program was selected to take part in the Airgas High School Welding Education Initiative. Airgas's program started in 2018 with the goal to improve high school students' welding skills and to combat worker shortage. As part of Airgas's program, Lima Senior's welding department will receive recurring donations and educational support.
Lima Senior High School FFA students completed a project to help area resident's prepare to cut their lawns. Students spent Saturday providing maintenance to lawn mowers at the Welding garage located at the high school.
Vantage Career Center gave younger students a chance to explore several different skilled labor careers they might not have considered before.
A handful of local high school students are getting a unique opportunity to build the foundation for a future career.
