High school students get welding experience at Rhodes State summer boot camp

A handful of local high school students are getting a unique opportunity to build the foundation for a future career.

Rhodes State College is hosting a youth welding boot camp for students interested in pursuing skilled work careers. Over the course of six weeks, they will learn about safety precautions, inspection work, and will get a chance to try their hand at welding. The program gives teenagers a chance to get some early exposure to the craft and it shows them that there is more than one path to success.

"The way that the economy is growing and moving, these jobs are not going away," says welding instructor Clint Roberts. "There's actually a huge demand for skilled labor right now in America and I think that people are really starting to try and find other options and avenues to pursue as a career."

At the end of the program, the students will walk away with a certificate of completion and a wealth of knowledge.
