HANCOCK COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Spectrum is helping make sure that families in rural northwest Ohio are connected to the world through increased broadband access.

The company and elected officials talked about the projects at Cory-Rawson schools this morning. Spectrum is looking at a 9 billion dollar multi-year initiative to bring internet, phone, and TV access to areas across the United States that couldn't get it before. Some of the funding for their build-out is coming from the federal government and Ohio to help companies like Spectrum increase reliable internet access. Congressman Bob Latta has been a big proponent of increasing broadband, but with growth comes other problems, like not having the skilled workforce to install it.

"I was at one place; had we considered in Washington, we might not have a truck and a bucket to get up there. It might take 2 years to get. So, there is a lot of challenges that have to be met, not just when people think about on the dollars, on the actual deployment," says just getting it out there," says Rep. Bob Latta, (R) Ohio's 5th Congressional District.
For the Cory-Rawson School District, this new access to broadband service will give their students the same tools that other parts of the state have.
There are a lot of areas up here, across the 1st Senate District and rural Northwest Ohio, that have a lack of broadband service and they desperately need it to be able to live work and raise their families here and participate in our modern economy," says State Sen. Rob McColley, (R) Ohio's 1st Ohio Senate District.
"It's really essential. We know that having internet service is important as electricity, clean water, and all those services. So, for our kids to be able to meet their full potential, we need for them to have internet service at home as well as at school," says Jay Clark, Superintendent of Cory-Rawson School District.
"It was brought up during the presentation, that there has been a lot of resource spent on broadband expansion down in Appalachia. And I am not minimizing the needs of Appalachia as far as broadband connectivity.
