LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A Lima man was sentenced to 16 to 17-and-a-half years in prison for a shooting outside a Lima bar last year.
Terrell Chitman, 45, pleaded guilty in April to two counts of felonious assault, discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premise, having weapons under disability and illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor permit premises. Other charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Terrell Chitman, 45, pleaded guilty in April to several charges related to a 2025 shooting.
According to court records, Chitman got into an altercation with someone he knew while inside Sheryl’s Bar in Lima. Investigators said he then retrieved a gun from a friend’s car and returned to the area. A shooting later happened in an alley near the bar, with several bullets striking a nearby home. No one was injured.
Chitman acknowledged he was intoxicated during the incident.
“The crime itself, in basic, is a congruence of a lot of liquor and access to a gun, somebody who felt they were disrespected,” said Stephen Chamberlain, Chitman’s public defender. “Unfortunately, he had quick access to this firearm and chose to do something stupid.”
Chitman will also face 18 months to three years of post-release control following his prison sentence.
