SHAWNEE TWP., Allen County, Ohio (WLIO) — Shawnee Township trustees, through their labor consultant, released allegations against Fire Chief Austin Miller Monday night before placing him on unpaid suspension pending a hearing in early September at the township building.
The trustees allege four cases of malfeasance and/or misconduct in office and one case of gross neglect of duty.
According to the labor consultant, the allegations stem from false information written in a firefighter's exit interview, failing to turn in money from a breast cancer awareness shirt sale, not completing a performance improvement plan and unauthorized programs or software on his work computer, specifically "bitlocker."
The report states that falsifying a public record is potentially a criminal offense.
Miller can ask for an extension to delay the hearing. The suspension cannot exceed 30 days.
If the hearing is held, Miller can present evidence and witnesses on his behalf. He could also waive the hearing.
The hearing is currently scheduled for Sept. 3 at 2 p.m.
