Lima church holds benefit yard sale to raise money for new roof and Jamaica relief

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Saviors Grace Ministries is planning a benefit yard sale Aug. 29 to raise money for a new roof at the church and help a church in Jamaica recover from damage caused by Hurricane Melissa last October.

The ministry is asking the public to donate clean, gently used clothing and household items for the sale. Coats and shoes also are being accepted.

Pastor Claytonia Logan said the church wanted to use the event to support both its own needs and a church in Jamaica that lost everything during the storm.

“So, what we decided was we going to come together, we're going to put on this big community yard sale to benefit both here and there. We want to be a blessing because we believe that God is going to bless us if we continue to bless other people. So we know that we're just believing God for our roof and to help them to restore what was damaged during the storm.,” says Pastor Claytonia Logan, Saviors Grace Ministries.

Lima Sixth Ward Councilman Derry Glenn also is reaching out to companies that may be willing to help the church with the cost of a new roof.

“We want to be able to put a roof on their church because she (Pastor Claytonia Logan) has been doing and her congregation been doing so much in this community, helping everyone out.  Helping our kids out with the turkey sale, air conditions, all that school day, Christmas time, they been giving. So, it's time for us to help them out, give them a roof on the church. So, I know we got a lot of companies been working on donating, helping out with roof on different churches. So, I'm going to be trying to contact some of them,” says Derry Glenn, Lima’s Sixth Ward Councilman.

The benefit yard sale will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Saviors Grace Ministries, 1017 Richie Ave. in Lima. Food also will be available for purchase.

Donations of clean, gently used clothing, household items, coats and shoes can be dropped off at the church Tuesday August from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
