LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Allen East Mustangs opened the 2026 football season in dominant fashion, shutting out the Perry Commodores 49-0 Friday night at Bob Lee Stadium.

The matchup marked the first meeting between the Allen County rivals since 2022 and served as WLIO's Spotlight Game of the Night.

It was also a memorable night for Allen East head coach Shane Wireman, a 2007 Allen East graduate, as he made his head coaching debut. Wireman also came into the matchup with familiarity with Perry after his time at Waynesfield-Goshen.

The Mustangs wasted little time getting on the scoreboard.

Quarterback Kegan Jones connected with Ethan Hershberger on a deep pass to give Allen East an early 7-0 lead.

Following a Perry turnover, Jones handed the ball to Miles McDorman, who punched in a four-yard touchdown to make it 14-0.

Perry had a chance to answer after recovering an Allen East fumble, but the Commodores couldn't capitalize.

Allen East added to its lead in the second quarter when Jones found Dominic Burkett for a touchdown, putting the Mustangs ahead 21-0.

Jones then added another score on a one-yard quarterback keeper as Allen East continued to control the game.

The Mustangs went on to complete the shutout, winning 49-0.

The victory gives Wireman a win in his first game as Allen East's head coach.

Final: Allen East 49, Perry 0.
