CELINA, Ohio (WLIO) — The defending Division VII state champion St. Henry Redskins opened the 2026 football season with a rematch against the Celina Bulldogs.

After St. Henry defeated Celina 31-7 in last year's season opener, the Bulldogs got their revenge Friday night, winning a back-and-forth shootout 38-35.

St. Henry and Celina traded scores throughout the first half. The Redskins tied the game at 14 when Drew Langenkamp took a direct snap up the middle for a touchdown with five minutes remaining in the second quarter.

The Redskins appeared to have momentum after Will Speck intercepted a Celina pass and returned it into Bulldog territory.

However, Celina answered on the very next play when Jett Warner intercepted a St. Henry pass.

The Bulldogs then recovered after a St. Henry fumble near the goal line, setting up another Langenkamp touchdown on a direct snap as the Redskins took a 21-14 lead into halftime.

Celina continued to battle in the second half and ultimately handed the defending state champions a 38-35 loss in a high-scoring season opener.

Celina quarterback Parker Wynk left the game with an injury following a play in the second half.

Final: Celina 38, St. Henry 35.
