Delphos (WLIO) - St. John's opened the season with a dominant 40-6 win over Lehman Catholic, matching the Blue Jays' win total from all of last season.

Lehman Catholic struck first when Gus Richard connected with Benton Verrill for a touchdown, but St. John's quickly answered. Senior Christian Young broke loose for an 18-yard touchdown run, giving the Blue Jays a 7-6 lead.

Drew Martz and Young continued to lead the offense, connecting on another rushing touchdown in the second quarter. Young finished with five touchdowns on the night as St. John's built a 28-6 advantage.

Martz also connected with Braden Lindeman for a 79-yard touchdown in the second half as the Blue Jays pulled away for the 40-6 victory. Lehman Catholic, which went 9-1 in the regular season last year, falls to 0-1.
