LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The gates at the Allen County Fair open at 7 a.m. Friday, and fair officials say the grounds are ready for nine days of food, entertainment, livestock and family fun.
Vendors, merchants and fair participants are arriving at the fairgrounds and getting ready for the opening day.
Recent rains raised concerns about parking and camping conditions, but crews have been working to keep those areas in shape.
Most areas where fair visitors will spend time are paved, including the midway and livestock areas, providing easy access to much of the fairgrounds.
Troy Elwer, operations manager for the Allen County Fair, said crews have worked to prepare the grass parking areas for visitors.
“Specifically from a parking perspective, we do not want the public to be concerned about coming out here this weekend. We have worked very hard to condition our parking lots, specifically the grass areas with rollers to really pack those down. So don't have concern about parking in those grass lots. We ask you to utilize our asphalt lots first, but then you can utilize the grass spots if you're at all concerned about getting stuck,” said Elwer.
Elwer said crews will also be available to help if anyone does get stuck.
Fair officials say they are ready to welcome visitors for the next nine days of activities at the Allen County Fair.
