Motorcycle Crash Generic

CONTINENTAL, Ohio (WLIO) — A motorcyclist was critically injured following a crash in Putnam County Saturday night.

Troopers from the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said 42-year-old Louis Wannemacher of Cecil was flown by helicopter to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo following the crash.

The crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. on State Route 634 near Road J outside Continental.

According to troopers, Wannemacher was traveling north when his motorcycle went off the left side of the road. The motorcycle struck a telephone pole and overturned.

Wannemacher was not wearing a helmet, according to troopers. His injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation.

Perry Twp – On August 22, 2026, at approximately 8:17 P.M., the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on SR 634 near Road J, Perry Township, Putnam County. 

Louis Wannemacher, age 42, from Cecil, Ohio was northbound on SR 634 riding a 2008 Harley Davidson Street Glide. Mr. Wannemacher drove off the left side of the road, struck a telephone pole, and overturned. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported from the scene by Continental EMS to Putnam County Ambulatory Care in Glandorf, Ohio. He was later taken by life flight to Mercy Health, St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  

The Harley Davidson sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene by Jim Schmidt Towing. 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Putnam County EMS, Continental EMS, Continental Fire, and Jim Schmidt Towing. 

The crash remains under investigation. Alcohol does appear to be a factor in this crash. 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists not to drive impaired and to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle.
