LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Fairgoers can find dozens of local businesses and nonprofit organizations inside the Merchants Building during the nine-day fair.
Located next to the Youth Exhibit Building, the Merchants Building features about 50 businesses and organizations offering everything from roofing and gutters to sewing machines and Tupperware.
Business owners say the fair provides an opportunity to connect with people in the community and introduce them to their products and services.
Chandra Neeper, owner of Heavenly Stitches, said the fair helps people learn more about the sewing machines, fabrics and services her business offers.
"It really does. So people find out that we carry 4 brands of sewing machines now, which is huge for our little shop. We are willing to teach you how to use your machine even if you did not buy it from us. We have that service. So and it gets out the word that we have fabrics now that there is the lack of Joann's."
Carole Cowles has been selling Tupperware at the fair for years. She said the event has been profitable and helped her build lasting relationships with fairgoers.
"I have had very profitable events every year since. I've made friends here. I've got people that come back every year that show their animals. But sadly, this is my last year I'm retired now and coming out of Tupperware and just spending time with my grandson."
The H-O Model Railroaders of Lima also are located on the east side of the Merchants Building.
The group has several model train layouts on display for fairgoers to enjoy. They are also raffling two train sets each day of the fair for children.
The Merchants Building is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day of the fair.
