LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Around 270 runners and walkers gathered Saturday morning at Lima Memorial Health System to support a community health initiative and raise funds for patients in need.
The event marked the third annual Milestones in Motion 5K run and walk, which was established during Lima Memorial's 125th anniversary celebration as a way to encourage healthy lifestyles throughout the community. Proceeds from the event will benefit the hospital's Samaritan Fund, which assists patients who may need transportation, medications, food, clothing or other necessities following their discharge from the hospital.
“So, all the proceeds today are going to our Samaritan Fund which helps get some of our patients in need to their next stop or maybe provide shoes, food, transportation, anything they need, medication to make their discharge from our hospital successful," says Sam Schroeder, Race Director & LMHS Lab Director. “It's just so great that it just continues to grow and get bigger and bigger and that just shows how much our community is interested in coming out and just enjoying the day with us for good cause.”
Organizers said they hope participation in the event continues to increase in the years ahead as the community rallies around both healthy living and support for local patients.
