The Allen Lima Youth Leadership had an educational session Friday at the University of Northwestern Ohio.
The session is sponsored by UNOH and focused on the importance of understanding self and leadership.
Interactive sessions and lectures throughout the day include DARE communication styles, team building exercises, and leadership styles.
The Allen Lima Youth Leadership program is a county and city-wide youth leadership program for around 40 high school sophomores and juniors who are looking to help their peers reach their fullest potentials.
Delphos St. John's Junior Jill Gemmer says, "Students really need that outlet at schools where they can have someone to talk to and they can feel comfortable to reach out an help someone and I think that when teachers are their only option, they don't feel as comfortable as a friend."
L.C.C. Junior Megan Latham says, "It's important because I think a lot of times in our community and in other communities teenagers kind of get pushed out of the way and we don't realize that there's problems going on within the teenage population and we need to fix some of them."
The Leadership program meets every other month and helps to provide the youth with unique opportunities to learn more about their community.
