SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WLIO) — A 17-year-old from Spencerville is dead after a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning in Shawnee Township.

Just after 4 a.m., Shawnee Township police responded to a crash in the 5100 block of State Route 117. Investigators say Owen Conley was driving a 2008 Honda Accord westbound when he veered off the road, struck an embankment and a tree, and then overturned. Conley was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say he was not wearing a seat belt, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.

On September 1, 2025, at approximately 4:03 AM, Shawnee Township Police and Fire Department responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash within the 5100 block of State Route 117 (Spencerville Road).  

The investigation revealed that the driver and sole occupant, Owen Conley, a 17-year-old from Spencerville, was operating a 2008 Honda Accord west on S.R. 117. The vehicle traveled off the north side of the roadway, struck an embankment, collided with a tree, and overturned before coming to rest. Owen Conley was pronounced deceased on scene. 

Mr. Conley was not wearing a seat belt, and alcohol is believed to be a factor. 

Assisting Shawnee Township on scene were the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Allen County Coroner’s Office, Shawnee Township EMS, and Army's Towing.    

This crash is still under investigation.
