LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Elks Lodge No. 54 is continuing its support for children with disabilities in Lima, Allen County and the surrounding area.

The organization presented a $10,000 check to the Lima Children's Developmental Center as part of an annual donation made possible through a state Elks grant. The center, established in 1953, was originally known as the Lima and Allen County Clinic. After several name changes over the years, it adopted its current name in 1996. The facility is the only private, nonprofit early intervention and preschool program for special needs children in Allen County. Officials with the center say the donation is essential to maintaining services and improving programming for children and families.

“Now is the time that we try to secure new materials for the children and for the teachers. Look for new trainings for staff so we can stay on top of our game and provide the best service,” said executive director Elisha Reineke. “This just goes a long way for us to be able to continue what we do with children with developmental disabilities and make sure that all the children have access regardless of their families financial situation.”

Jim Foust, Exhalted Ruler Lima Elks Lodge #54 said the donation reflects the Ohio Elks Association’s commitment to supporting children with cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities.

“The Ohio Elks Association, their main project is cerebral palsy. So, through a grant from the Ohio association we've been able to award the children's developmental program a check for $10,000,” Foust said. “That's a very big help for them and all the good work that they do.”
