LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A Findlay man charged with shooting at a Bluffton police officer in 2021 is still working to get his case dismissed.

The motion hearing for Ronald Powell Jr. continued in Allen County Common Pleas Court. Powell is facing felonious assault and other charges. His attorney argues that Powell’s right to a speedy trial has expired and, under the Ohio Constitution, the case should be dismissed. Prosecutors say Powell’s indictment was sent to the wrong address. Witnesses testified Wednesday about when the paperwork was actually seen and when the speedy trial clock officially began.

Powell allegedly fired at law enforcement officers during a police chase in Bluffton. No one was injured during the incident. Powell was later arrested in Michigan after initially eluding capture in Ohio. The judge is expected to rule on the motion at a later date.
