LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – MakerFest is giving local freshmen and sophomores the chance to explore career paths available in the region.

The Allen County Economic Development Group shared details with the Lima Rotary Club about the October event, which will return to the Allen County Fairgrounds.

Fifty-six companies representing healthcare, manufacturing, trades and more will participate in the two-day event. Through hands-on activities and demonstrations, businesses will showcase available jobs and encourage students to begin thinking about their futures.

“First off, it's amazing what they do, what they with their products and their services are, but at the same time, it's not something that students grow up thinking that they know about, or maybe there's a lot of hearsay. So, this event gives them a chance to really get together with the companies, and the companies can showcase what they have to offer, and the students can then start taking interest as to what they want to do. Catching them at the 9th and 10th grade year gives them the chance to think, Oh, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. And I think it's a little bit more of a realistic time frame for those students to start processing that information,” said Tim Fitzpatrick, AEDG regional workforce development.

Twenty-two schools will bring about 1,500 students to the 2025 MakerFest.
