LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Millions of people across the country joined together Thursday for the 75th observance of the National Day of Prayer, including more than 100 people who gathered at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center in Lima.
The local observance brought together religious, government and community leaders to pray for political leaders, the military, families and the nation. The event was organized by the Lima National Day of Prayer Task Force, which has hosted the gathering for many years.
Organizers said the annual event has steadily grown over time. What once began in a tent outside the Allen County Courthouse has expanded into a larger community-wide gathering focused on unity and peace.
“Not one group, not one sect, not one particular style of anything, but we have a cross section of faith and from our community,” said Theresa Lee, Lima National Day of Prayer coordinator. “We need to remind each other. Our nation needs prayer. These national leaders are not our enemy. If they're not our friend, you know they may not be our particular choice, but they still need wisdom, they still need grace, they still need mercy, they still need protection, and that comes through the prayers of God's people.”
Those attending said they were moved by both the message of unity and the music performed by the Temple Christian High School Choir.
