LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Super bowl Sunday is a big event for many sports fans across America, but for those in Lima who are fonder of music, there is an alternative route.

Since the 1970's, the Lima Area Chapter of the American Guild of Organists has held their "Super Bowl Organ Recital" event. This event was held at 3 pm at the Market Street Presbyterian Church in Lima. With over 10 songs played in total, each song varied in genre, as well as theme. This concert showcased how the organ is truly played, and how complex the instrument is.

Lima Organ Guild offers musical alternative to Super Bowl Sunday

With audience participation, one of the organists played an audience member's favorite hymn as the viewers sang. You may wonder as to why the guild chooses Super Bowl Sunday for this performance.

"People know when it is, and we always say it's 3 o'clock and it usually rotates between this church and Trinity United Methodist. Maybe we will expand to other places too but it's always a memorable, memorable day," says Dean Altstaetter, Dean of Lima Area Chapter, American Guild of Organists, Lima.

By having this performance on Super Bowl Sunday, it gives people who like music over football an eventful day as well. He also adds that this organization is for anyone who plays the organ or is interested. For more information, check out their Facebook page
